Nazareth Home, a licensed foster home located in East Chicago, Indiana, provides individualized twenty-four hour per day care for medically compromised children who are referred by the Department of Child Services. The mission of Nazareth Home is to care for poor and powerless infants and children, those unable to speak for themselves, by providing them with a loving, caring and stable beginning. Nazareth Home is dedicated to meeting the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of medically compromised infants and children who are faced with extraordinary challenges in life as a result of being abandoned by or removed from families without the capacity to provide appropriate care. A medically compromised child may be suffering from drug withdrawal or may be attached to a variety of life support systems.

The State of Indiana supplies a minimal daily stipend for the children in residence at Nazareth Home. Due to the incredible medical costs associated with caring for these children, the state stipend covers only a small portion of the actual expenses incurred. Historically, Nazareth Home has been partially subsidized by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ. These financial resources are available on a limited basis, and for Nazareth Home to insure future viability, the goal is to become a self-sustaining ministry by seeking additional community support and donations to fulfill its mission. Several years ago, a visionary donor established an endowment fund to generate the operating support needed to provide services. In order to complete the challenge match provided by this generous donor, an additional $200,000 must be raised during 2007 for the Brinkman Fund.
