Nazareth Home

A Ministry of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ

Sr. Barb Kuper Transition Announcement

Date: August 7, 2010

For the past 17 years, Sister Barbara Kuper, PHJC has devoted herself to Nazareth Home and more than 140 medically challenged foster infants and children cared for at the Nazareth Home. She embodies the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ values and the mission of Nazareth Home. The community, the volunteers, the staff and the children all see Nazareth Home as an extension of the love, caring and nurturing that Sister Barbara offers.

It is with mixed emotions, that I announce Sister Barbara’s resignation from her position at Nazareth Home effective December 31, 2010. This decision was not an easy one for Sister Barbara, and was made after a great deal of thought and reflection, believing this is the right time to move on to a new ministry. I know you will all join me in supporting her decision and wishing her well.

Sister Barbara is planning to take a sabbatical in January 2011 to rest, relax, and enjoy time with her family and friends as she determines her next ministry. She is not retiring, just moving on to new ways of sharing her special talents and skills.

During the coming months, Sister Barbara and I will be working closely together to develop an appropriate transition of her current responsibilities to a new Foster Mother.

Sister Barbara started at Nazareth Home in September 1993. She has witnessed the joys and the sorrows of all of the Nazareth Home children. She originally worked with Sister Fidelis, Sister Bernice, Sister Corinne and Sister Carol.

Sister Barbara has been instrumental in working with the Nazareth Home Gala Planning Committee and recently with the Advisory Committee to sustain the ministry through gifts and contributions for the Nazareth Home, thereby supporting the work of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.

We hope you will join us for the 8th Annual Nazareth Home Gala, October 21, 2010 at the Hammond Federal Court House, to celebrate with Sister Barbara a new beginning and phase of serving those in need.

Sister Barbara is the face, the heart and the soul of Nazareth Home. Please join me in wishing Sister Barbara well and thanking her for her many contributions to Nazareth Home, especially to the children whose lives she has touched.
