Nazareth Home

A Ministry of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ

Nazareth Home Highlighted in Lampen Lecture

Using the series theme of Dignity and Respect, Sister Barbara Kuper, PHJC presented a lecture on Nazareth Home, on April 2, 2009, as part of the Ancilla College Lampen Lecture series for 2008-09. The Lampen Lecture Series is named after Sister Joel Lampen, PHJC, a long time President of Ancilla College.

An audience of Ancilla College students, Sisters, and the PHJC Ministry Center staff and residents learned about the history of the founding of Nazareth Home, as well as the themes underlying one of the four PHJC Core Values— Dignity and Respect for All. The lecture included a discussion of how the work of Nazareth Home reflects directly back to the mission of Blessed Catherine Kasper, and her ministry in Dernbach, Germany. Sister Barbara shared several stories of children, past and recent who have left an indelible mark upon the staff and volunteers at Nazareth Home.

We also shared briefly about the volunteer “Cuddlers” and the first Cuddler—Brother Bob Overland, FS! The lecture concluded with the symbolic gift of a pebble for each attendee—to create their own rippling pool of water (the PHJC Community symbol) in their own lives, and in the lives of others. The real stars of the day, however, were “Robert” and “Tommy”, (two of the one-year-olds at Nazareth Home), who captivated the audience before, during, and after the lecture!
