RED (Renew, Energize and Donate) Day is Keller Williams Realty's annual initiative committed to their year-round dedication to improving their local communities.

SCHERERVILLE | If you tried walking into a Keller Williams Realty office yesterday, you may have been greeted by a note indicating "Offices closed in honor of our third annual nationwide RED Day."

RED (Renew, Energize and Donate) Day is Keller Williams Realty's annual initiative committed to their year-round dedication to improving local communities. Every year during the second Thursday in May, tens of thousands of associates from across the country and Canada participate in a wide array of initiatives aimed at bettering their communities.

This year, Northwest Indiana Keller Williams revitalized five sites in dire need of renovation. Those locations included East Chicago's Nazareth Home and Carmelite Home for Girls, Schererville's Campagna Academy and Valparaiso's Hilltop House and Housing Opportunities.

At Campagna Academy, Team Leaders Kim Odegard and Frank Lopez could be seen painting a paired cottage that had not been utilized in over a year and will soon house Campagna's very first girls unit.

"We are so grateful to Keller Williams for their commitment," said Elena Roig-Dwyre, Campagna Academy interim chief executive officer. "This cottage that they are working on hasn't been functional for a very long time and without their help it simply wouldn't have been possible."

Sherwin Williams donated several gallons of paint, brushes and rollers to Keller Williams for their annual RED Day initiative.

In East Chicago, teams bombarded the Carmelite Home's third floor halls while others planted perennials and annuals in their garden walkway.

"We are grateful because we were in desperate need of help," said Sister Carmelita, Carmelite Home. "We had a problem with bees and a possum that would hide in our bushes that terrified us. Now our walkway looks fantastic and Keller Williams eliminated those hiding spots for our unwelcomed guests."

At the Hilltop House and Housing Opportunities, teams painted hallways and apartments. Hilltop currently serves over 400 families and serves one third of the Valparaiso community.

Housing Opportunities consists of 26 apartments, mostly for low income and the homeless.

"We give where we live," said Brenda Tovsen, Keller Williams NW Indiana chairperson. "We are proud of the work we do in our communities because there is a great fulfillment in giving and our staff is very committed and compassionate."

Keller Williams Realty remains one of the most successful franchises in real estate history, but perhaps even more important to their associates is their reputation for serving their community.
